New klybeckplus neighbourhood development
platform fosters dialogue
The ‘Quartierentwicklung klybeckplus’ (neighbourhood development klybeckplus) platform was launched at the end of December 2024, with the aim of bringing together questions and answers from the public and the planning partners – the canton of Basel-Stadt, Rhystadt, and Swiss Life – and ensuring that plans for the new neighbourhood meet people’s actual needs.
Developing any neighbourhood is a long-term project. This makes it all the more important to provide information and encourage dialogue. For this reason, the ‘Quartierentwicklung klybeckplus’ platform was launched at the end of 2024.
The platform was launched at the initiative of the three planning partners and helps to ensure that the actual needs of the local community are reflected in the consultation process. The website offers an insight into this ongoing learning process and covers key aspects of neighbourhood development that go beyond urban design and planning considerations.
This is because, when developing a site, it is important to do more than simply comply with the legal framework. Ultimately, people will live and work in the new neighbourhood – and they should enjoy doing so.
Alles über Beteiligung
The website www.quartierentwicklung-klybeckplus.ch has been providing information on public participation since planning began. It will also document the outcomes of future public consultation initiatives. Furthermore, the website itself provides an opportunity for participation and dialogue.
The platform features, for example, presentations from the various dialogue workshops, which give the public an insight into the site development process. It includes articles on specific topics, e.g. what educational opportunities will be available in the neighbourhood in future, or how the urban microclimate is being taken into account.
The ‘Monitoring’ section of the website also regularly records questions and suggestions from the public, as well as updates on progress. A comments section allows users to respond directly and engage in dialogue with the development partners.
Over 180 articles on the ‘Quartierentwicklung klybeckplus’ initiative
The articles can be sorted by topic, making it quick and easy to find what you are looking for. As of today, the website contains over 180 articles on issues such as housing, mobility and education.
“With this new platform, we are creating further space to continuously enrich the klybeckplus regeneration project with various social, economic, environmental and cultural inputs alongside the formal planning process,” says Roland Frank, head of the Neighbourhood Development Unit of the Basel-Stadt Department of Presidential Affairs. “We call it the ‘Quartierentwicklung klybeckplus’, or ‘QEK’ for short.”
The documentation of this process is comprehensive – and certainly worth taking a look. It gives a glimpse of what the neighbourhood will one day be like when this intergenerational project is complete and the transformed Klybeck site is bustling with life.
