On 20 September 2022, the planning partners – the canton of Basel-Stadt, Swiss Life, and Rhystadt – marked the beginning of a new chapter in the north of Basel when they presented the ‘Städtebauliches Leitbild klybeckplus’ (urban planning model) in the presence of the then president of the Basel-Stadt cantonal government Beat Jans alongside cantonal councillor Esther Keller. The planning model shows how previously isolated neighbourhoods are being connected, how additional residential, working and living spaces are being created, and where new green spaces and open spaces are planned. Key elements of the transformation of the Klybeck site into an open, green, mixed-use neighbourhood include the sustainable use of resources, urban-friendly mobility and the requirements of a climate-resilient city.

‘Städtebauliches Leitbild klybeckplus’ sets out the overall plan for the development and potential uses of the Klybeck site. It serves both as a planning framework and a guiding principle for construction and infrastructure projects, and as the basis for all further planning. Among other things, the development plan provides information on the balance between residential and commercial use, and where green spaces, nurseries and schools are to be located.
